Talk-- Metal Narrative

The symposium, "Things Ask the West - The World of Gold", will focus on contemporary emerging metal artworks from both horizontal and vertical aspects.

In the horizontal dimension, the ways in which contemporary metal art reflects regional culture and globalisation, how contemporary metal art is turning towards and expanding into the broader field of art and design, and how traditional metal art can be integrated with new material-making technologies will be discussed.

In the vertical dimension, it will focus on how contemporary metal art uses the craft medium to respond to the contemporary environment, and how traditional metalwork can turn towards the contemporary while constituting a dynamic link with traditional material culture.
